Blondes Have More Fun?

At our high school, it is a wrestling tradition that if you are a state qualifier, you bleach your hair for the state tournament.  The Kid's Club team decided that if it is good enough for the "big boys," then it surely is good enough for them.

Tanner had been hinting that if he made it to state, that he really wanted to dye his hair.  I kept putting him off, not thinking he would be able to make it this far.  I guess he proved me wrong!!  :-) So, I conceded, and off to the store I went in search of the appropriate supplies.  I chose the absolute lightest blonde dye I could find.

Mom playing beautician:

The finished product:

It doesn't look drastically different, but his hair is fairly light colored in the first place.  It is a light yellowish color and he fits in with the rest of the bleached blondes at practice.  He is happy though, so that is all that counts!

Redneck Corkscrew

What does one do when they would like to open a bottle  that has a cork, but cannot for the life of them, locate the corkscrew?  Well, you improvise of course!  Some may call it "McGyvering," but I would like to call it "McGivneying."

I have developed a highly technical step by step tutorial, so you too, can be prepared in the event of corkscrew loss at your home.

STEP 1:  Gather supplies needed:
1 bottle of preferred beverage with cork
1 long screw
1 pair pliers
1 Electic Drill (if battery powered, make sure it is charged--this is crucial for success)

STEP 2:  Slowly drill screw into cork.  Insert screw at least halfway into cork.  This is a very tricky step.  It should not be attempted by amateurs.

STEP 3:  Apply pliers to screw.  Squeeze screw with pliers and begin to tug.
Tug some more.
Continue to tug.
Begin to wonder if this is really going to work and begin to look for alternate beverage options.
Realize that the cork is finally moving!

STEP 4:  Success!!

As you can see, this method is not for sissies--try at your own risk!  But, desperate times call for desperate measures!

I can see this becoming a new trend across the nation.  I think I may have to apply for a patent for this method.....hmmmmmmm

STATE BOUND!!!

We headed out (at 5:30 AM mind you!) to District wrestling today for Tanner to hopefully qualify for state.  They only take the top 4 from each district, so there are a total of 16 kids in each age/weight bracket.  The roads were awful--snow packed and icy the whole way--UGH!

After a VERY nerve-wracking day for his mom and dad, he MADE IT!!  He had a loss in the second round, so he had to wrestle his way up the back side of the bracket. (For those who may not be aware, this is not an easy task.)  When the match was over, he was pretty pumped!!!  He came running up to me in the stands saying, "I made it to state!!"  He had tears in his eyes, and it was quite contagious because I had them too!!  :-)

We are now off to the State Tournament next weekend in Topeka.  Can't wait for him to get to experience it all!  A pretty big accomplishment for this being his second year of wrestling!!

Sub-District Champ!

Tanner had another great Saturday of wrestling!  He made it through Sub-Districts with a 1st Place finish, and now we are on to District competition next Saturday.  He has to place in the top 4 there to get to go to the State Tournament in Topeka.

Wrestling Weekends

Tanner has wrestled the past two weekends at tournaments after having a few weekends off.  He placed 2nd last weekend in Ellsworth, and he earned 1st Place yesterday at the Chapman Invitational!

Winning a match at Ellsworth.

Tanner with his Gold medal and Championship Bracket.
This was his first time winning first place, so he was pretty pumped!  It was pretty exciting for him.  Now, we move on to Sub-Districts.  We will see how it goes!  Way to go Tanner!
